The NY Sports Press SucksThey Had An Original Thought Once … It Died Of Loneliness – Part I
Commander Cody, once famously sang, “My pappy said “son you’re going to drive me to drinkin’ if you don’t stop driving the hot rod Lincoln”
Well, I’m your daddy, bitches, and I’m telling you, It’s going to drive me to drinkin’ (or have I already arrived..hmmm?) if I don’t stop reading the NY media Jets coverage stinking thinking.
Not, to overtly rip off Dennis Miller “I don’t want to get off on a rant here” (But…buckle up)
This is the crap that pisses me off. The lame NY Sports media, treating it’s readers like crack addicts because they have a captive audience. Go back, read my column, about how the Browns need to manage the draft. I pointed out what was obvious to anyone with a brain, three weeks ago.
Today, the NY Post…’The Browns could take Barkley with the No. 1 pick and wait until the No. 4 selection they also own to find their next quarterback” No Shit Sherman…err..Sherlock.
Because like I said, If the Browns pass on Barkley, he is a Giant. Yet every Draft Guru, except Kiper, has Darnold at 1. Kiper has the NY Jets taking Josh Allen at 1.
NO ONE HAD BARKLEY AT ONE BEFORE ME. PERIOD. Let that sink in. Hobbes, The Omniscient, “I know everything so you don’t have to” (registered trademark), called it first.
Now, Back to the QB issue.
Can Costello stop pimping Cousins to Jets fans, FFS, 60 million Guaranteed in year one? Brian? AYFKM? Then walking it back saying you were not suggesting it, but to pose it as a possibility????
“The worst-kept secret in football is that Plan A is a big run at Cousins.”
Here’s a lesson in critical reading…
Pick out the weasel words.
“The Jets could get creative with their contract offer to Cousins with all of that cap space.
Many people think that could mean a five-year, $150 million contract with a good chunk of that guaranteed.
One league source speculated the Jets could front-load the contract and offer Cousins $60 million guaranteed in the first year of the contract.
That would still leave them with about $30 million in cap space this year and then allow them to build around Cousins with lower cap figures in the remaining years of the contract. Pro Football Talk reported they spoke to people who believe (Now he’s spreading crap third hand) “the Jets might be willing to guarantee the entire contract, something unheard of in the NFL for long-term deals.”
Well, maybe I heard a guy, who heard another guy speculating while drunk. Costello throws darts and hopes one hit. FCOL, Brian, just kiss Mickey Macc hard on the lips and say Cousins sent you.
Again, Cousins to the Jets, thanks for the insight Brian
“If the Jets do sign Cousins, they would be in a position to draft the best player available with the No. 6 pick.”
Their roster has so many holes that they could go in a number of different directions.
The good news is they might be in the position to take the third best non-quarterback,
with the Browns, Giants, and Broncos all drafting ahead of them and in the quarterback market.
P.S. The Browns can’t be writing off Kizer, and the Giants love Davis Webb (as I did coming out)
Maybe Brian should read his own column.
“Cousins, 29, has thrown for more than 4,000 yards in each of the last three seasons. He was 26-30-1 as a starter with the Redskins.”
26-30 as a starter. Yes, Brian lets make him the highest paid player in NFL History.
Now, here is Mehta at the NYDN
“Jets are screwed if they don’t sign Kirk Cousins”
“The trick will be actually acquiring him. It’s not every day a quarterback of his caliber entering his prime hits the open market.’
“They better get Cousins.”
(A QB of his caliber? Now he’s Drew Brees or Peyton Manning?)
“Think about this possibility: Maccagnan signs Cousins, drafts Jackson AND picks up an additional premium pick. Hard to not like that scenario.”
30, and a losing record. Yes, he puts up nice stats, but he DOES NOT WIN.
Then in a potential draft article,
“The mercurial pass rusher comes with a boatload of risk, but the payoff could be monumental. The Jets desperately need — and want — an edge pass rushing presence. Key was an ascending player as a true freshman and sophomore before off-field/personal issues surfaced that have given evaluators plenty of pause for concern” (Yes, the Jets need another problem player on the defense….again, Manish knows the travails, he allegedly covers the team)
Yet, Josh Allen’s upside is upstaged by the over pay Kirk Cousins group-think.
The Collective NY Sports media sucks, showing zero original thought, or anything remotely resembling analysis.
I dare you, read the Post and The NYDN, and tell me, that these guys aren’t spending nights in flagrante delicto, and regurgitating their pillow talk.
Josh Allen, NO. MATTER. WHAT. (periods intentional, Van)
Keep the 90 mil in salary cap, and build around the best guy coming out at QB.
I want to know what you think, C’mon, enter the Tiger’s Cage.
