Chiefs looking to get past Browns even with new coach.

There should have been beer fridges opened in Cleveland on Monday because the Browns finally fired Hue Jackson. They also got rid of offensive coordinator Todd Haley. Gregg Williams takes over as the acting head coach but all the excitement will be short-lived because the Browns play the best team in the AFC, the Kansas City Chiefs. With an easy matchup in front of them, the Chiefs should be able to win this game, but it does hinge not on the secondary because I think Patrick Mahomes will take advantage of everyone not named Denzel Ward, who is a good corner but is the only star in the defensive backfield. What will matter is if Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz can hold Myles Garrett and Emmanuel Ogbah at bay while hoping the replacements on the interior can handle Larry Ogunjobi.

The Chiefs offensive weapons will have a field day against the Browns defensive secondary, the Chiefs will take advantage of this by running a lot of slants and screens that don’t allow the Browns to get home to Patrick Mahomes, this also allows him to prove he is efficient in the pocket and running the screens is the best way to get Tyreek Hill out in space. Yes, he’s coming off an injury to his groin but even at 90%, he is most likely the fastest wide receiver in the NFL. Then if the tackle does hold up I expect to see Hill and Mahomes make the sky dark with footballs. In an unperfect world where Hill’s injury keeps his playing to a minimum, the Chiefs may be in for a dogfight because a talented front seven could limit Kareem Hunt, with Kirksey the most likely player shadowing him out in space. Could the Chiefs actually have to put faith in their defense to win a game for the first time this season?

Could this be the game that the defense gets right? Call me crazy but keep reading. The Browns are coming off big coaching changes where they got rid of the head coach and offensive coordinator. New leading man Gregg Williams has a checkered past and new offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens has had a week to make his changes. On top of all that the starting left tackle, who has had his ups and downs, won’t be playing ( big game for Dee Ford). All this change can cause players to think more and react slower. So if it’s one game the chiefs defense can get some confidence its this week.

This game should be fun for the Chiefs, and for once on both sides of the ball. Regardless of the result though you can bet that Gregg Williams will have some great sound bites. Just be sure to bring some lozenges.
