Chiefs Looking to Fly Past Cardinals

Does it even matter who the Chiefs face anymore? No, it does not. This game is simply a tune-up game before the Rams game coming up next Monday. These are not the Cardinals of a few years ago with Bruce Arians and Carson Palmer. This is a new rebuilding Cards team that frankly doesn’t even use Larry Fitzgerald. It’s simply the Cardinals are rebuilding and the Chiefs are rolling. The biggest news at the end of the game will be who had a big day; Did Kareem hunt have one-hundred yards rushing and a receiving touchdown? Did Travis Kelce make a touchdown catch in triple coverage? Did Tyreek Hill catch an eighty-yard bomb and leave the defense in the dust? Could every question actually be answered with a yes come Sunday night?

For the Chiefs’ offense, this game will have one of two plans: If Sammy Watkins plays and if he doesn’t. (He is nursing a foot injury and has been absent from practice this week) One could argue that Watkins hasn’t been a huge factor in this offense, but for this game, it’s important to note because Patrick Peterson will cover Watkins if he’s in the game, if not he will cover Hill. Make no mistake Hill is a very good wide receiver, but I like his chances better against the other cornerbacks the defense has. Patrick Peterson is a great corner, Bene Benwikere not so much. That really wraps all the questions on offense. Kareem hunt will be explosive, Chandler Jones may get a sack or two but won’t break the game open, and Mitchell Schwartz will continue his impressive snap streak. Yes, the streak doesn’t get talked about, here it is though. It’s impressive.

On defense there is good news, Justin Houston is back! This will provide a much-needed pass rush. Which is very important because opposing offensive coordinators are circling the Chiefs as their ” Heavy Yardage week”, even Baker Mayfield nearly put up 300 yards against the Chiefs. Not many rookie quarterbacks do that. As I said in my last article this defense only needs one or two stops and they’ll get a win, going up against an offense that has forgotten it has Larry Fitzgerald will help. But this week should be used to see which stunts and twists help the pass rush. If this team hopes to go deep into the playoffs they need to make stops. Bob Sutton could be coaching for his job, can Justin Houston rally his brothers and get a huge stop? This is the week to find out. If not changes could be made.
