Field Yates, NFL Insider for ESPN, is reporting the Chargers have picked up the fifth-year option on RB Melvin Gordon.
The option year is guaranteed against injury but make no mistake, the clock is ticking and the club needs to start looking at a long-term deal for their bell-cow back.

Gordon and the club seemed to figure it out last season as Gordon produced over 1k yards on the ground and almost 500 yards receiving. There is no competition for the job in the Boltz backfield and they don’t seem keen on bringing any in.
Gordon should be able to easily turn in another 1k season with the team and adding UCLA OC Scott Quessenberry was a nice move to assist that effort. Bottom line Chargers Nation doesn’t have to worry about RB for at least another couple of seasons.
That works for Philip Rivers.
