Need to Know – NFL Week 1

Sunday’s can be overwhelming. There are some things around the house that need addressing and don’t forget, Monday is right around the corner. Who has time to wade through the plethora of Game Day information?!? Well, we do. Below is your personal Game Day Cliff’s Notes.

RB David Johnson – Cardinals

On Saturday the Arizona Cardinals gave their fan base some excellent news as they announced they had come to terms with RB David Johnson on a three-year contract extension.

$39 million. $30 million guaranteed according to NFL Networks Ian Rappoport.

Excellent timing, solid figures. Well done deal by both sides and the short length may have been something the team didn’t initially prefer but is now on board with.

DE Joey Bosa – Chargers

Bosa is out for today’s game but the Los Angeles Chargers and the uber-talented DE await news as Bosa has an appointment with a foot specialist on Wednesday in Green Bay according to the NFL Network.

You can forget all the good news you are hearing and prepare to wait till the end of the week before you hear anything back that is based on facts instead of conjecture.

23 sacks in 28 games aren’t replaced by scheme or the next man stepping up. The Botlz need Bosa. Fast.

Houston Texans

The Texans will be taking on the Patriots today without the services of their big-strike weapon, WR Will Fuller. Not the way you want to face the Pats dynasty on Week 1.

Carolina Panthers

“Expected to play” is the report now out of the Carolina as the talented TE and Cam Newton security blanket has been dealing with a back injury all week. It’s only his back. No worries. Right?

RT Daryl Williams reportedly just missed a trip to the IR and now will/may actually play against Dallas today. With the rejuvenated pass-rush Big D is bringing to the party Carolina needs all hands on deck along the offensive line. If he is ineffective the day could get ugly early for Cam Newton.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

When you are facing the Saints Drew Brews you need all hands on deck for the defensive side of the ball. The Bucs drew the short straw as NFL Networks’s Nick Shook is reporting CB Brent Grimes is out due to his groin injury.

Indianapolis Colts

The Colts have two guys they are going to work out just before the game in order to make the call. RB Marlon Mack and LT Anthony Costonzo. Both are nursing hamstring injuries and are not expected to be available but the club needs them badly and is holding out hope.

Dallas Cowboys

Good news for Cowboys Nation as both Chidobe Awuzie and Kavon Frazier are reportedly available for duty today against the Panthers. Awuzie is the better talent but Fraizer mans the THIN position of safety for the Cowboys defense. He is nursing a hamstring. Hope for warm weather!

Pittsburgh Steelers

Unless you’ve been stuck in a cave with no service you are aware of RB Le’Veon Bell’s holdout. As has been reported he did not make the trip with the team to Cleveland yesterday and guess what? He didn’t miraculously decide to show up on his own either at this point. The Steelers organization is going out of it’s way to (again) paint Le’Veon in a negative light and this situation doesn’t look to be getting better anytime soon as hard feelings are evident on both sides. James Connor will get the start instead and is a talented guy who can tote the rock quite well. His pass blocking is suspect however so the team will have to use him wisely on passing downs.

Seattle Seahawks

The ‘Hawks made a couple of important moves. Fist, they activated all-pro Safety Earl Thomas and yes, he will be available today. He will most likely not start, however.

Can’t have good news without bad it seems and the club also placed starting CB Dontae Johnson on injured reserve. He may very well be able to return after week 8 however as his hip injury is not considered “serious” according to NFL Networks Jeremy Bergman.
