Why play into Week 17? That’s easy, it’s another week of Fantasy Football! I have one league still in progress and I am in the finals. I have been trying to win this league for YEARS and I have finished second four years in a row. I have a lead after the first week of the two-week championship. I am projected to win. If I have learned anything over the past three weeks of the NFL, my lead doesn’t mean a darn thing. Wish me luck. In all seriousness, more people should play into the final week of the season because there is an added level of strategy. You can really find out how good you are.
This is my final article for the regular season. I want to thank you all for reading and I hope you enjoyed the odd but accurate thoughts that have come out of my brain. I want to thank my wife too. She doesn’t play fantasy football, but she knows how much I enjoy it. Her love and support have allowed me to stay up late and share my thoughts with you all.
Good luck if you are still playing, and may championships be in our future. With that, let’s get to the injuries.
Carson Wentz, QB, PHI – He’s out and Nick Foles is in again for Week 17. I’m starting Nick Foles in my Championship game. I like him better than Josh Allen and I think he will be next year’s, Case Keenum. Worth a stash in dynasty leagues and then dropped later when we all realize he’s in a bad situation.
Marcus Mariota, QB, TEN – All signs are pointing to Super Mariota sitting. The team signed Austin Davis to the roster, and that typically doesn’t mean good things. Either way, look to the waiver wire Foles or Josh Allen.
Cam Newton, QB, CAR – He is out again. Find another QB if you are playing this week. Great trade candidate in keeper or dynasty leagues.
Phillip Lindsey, RB, DEN – This one sucks for everyone. What a cool story for the NFL and for fantasy football. Lindsey sustained a wrist injury around the scaphoid bone. I have heard 3-to-6 month and a 4-to-6 month recovery for this injury. He should be ready for next season. Fire up, Royce Freeman and Devontae Booker. I would try to steer clear of both in Week 17, but if forced to make a decision, I would roll with Freeman. I also made a trade for Freeman in my dynasty leagues. The winds of change are blowing in Denver, and new coaches are coming.
Todd Gurley, RB, LAR – If I were to bet, he sits this week too. Why risk it? I hope you were lucky and got C.J. Anderson. John Kelly is worth a look in deeper leagues too.
Lamar Miller, RB, HOU – Miller is dealing with an ankle injury and there is a lot on the line on Sunday. The Texans should be the AFC South Champs, but either way, they are already in the playoffs. Why risk Miller? Foreman returned last week and Alfred Blue is still around. If needed, take a look at Foreman or another back on the waiver wire.
Tevin Coleman, RB, ATL – It’s only Wednesday, but Coleman did not practice today. Brian Hill is the backup to target if in need of a Coleman replacement. Worse case, pick up Hill and drop him later if needed.
James Conner, RB, PIT – Conner practiced in full on Wednesday! The Steelers are in need of a win to get into the playoffs, and I fully expect Conner to suit up and play.
Spencer Ware, RB, KC – He practiced in full on Wednesday. He is looking like he will play on Sunday and is worth a start against Oakland.
Matt Breida, RB, SF – Matt Breida is out this week and Jeff Wilson Jr. is back up for us in Week 17. Rest up Matt, we will see you next year.
DeAndre Hopkins, WR, HOU – Hopkins is one tough dude. He is going to play Week 17, that is my bet. As long as he is in, keep rolling him out there in all formats.
Odell Beckham Jr., WR, NYG – OBJ is not practicing yet and that is not good. If he sits, Sterling Shepard is worth a look or my favorite Daesean Hamilton/another waiver WR.
Demaryius Thomas, WR, HOU – DT’s time in Houston might be done with the Achilles injury he sustained in Week 16. This helps Keke Coutee’s value if Coutee can stay healthy. Get well soon Thomas!
Dante Pettis, WR, SF – Pettis sustained an MCL injury and is done this season. Look to the waivers for a weekly replacement and stash Pettis. Jimmy Garoppolo is coming back next season so we can see what the 49ners are made of as a team.
Tyler Boyd, WR, CIN – He is not practicing and is not slated to play this week. John Ross and Alex Erickson would benefit from Boyd sitting. Look elsewhere if in need of a WR, but if you are in a pinch roll with Ross.
Jordan Reed, TE, WAS – He is not practicing and is probably not going to play this week. Vernon Davis or Jeremy Sprinkle are the replacements for Reed. I would lean towards Sprinkle because he is more healthy than Davis.
Eric Ebron, TE, IND – He looks to be progressing towards playing this week and that is good news for everyone. The Colts needs to win to have a chance at the playoffs and having Ebron would be awesome. He is dealing with a concussion and a knee injury. Watch practice reports, but he should be a go.
