Rookies report to UCI Tuesday, July 26th for the 2016 Los Angeles Rams Training Camp. That means as of today real NFL football is back in LA. It’s been a long wait as it was 1994 the last time the Rams were on the UCI campus. Looking at it another way, the Cowboys were in the midst of their triple Super Bowl run then. It was that long ago.
Interns and staff reported yesterday and the energy level and enthusiasm was high as Head Coach Jeff Fisher was on hand to make certain all in attendance could see his steady hand on the rudder.
Don’t rush down to the UCI campus expecting to see the rooks in pads and hear the crack of hitting. Today will be logistical in nature, getting setup in the dorms, finding the way around campus, etc. Wednesday will be the first day the rooks hit the field and it will be in shorts versus pads.
The veterans show up Thursday the 29th and the first full team practice will be this Saturday.
Everyone’s been through minicamps, OTA’s and offseason workouts. The players know the pace and what’s expected of them. The air is hot and humid with occasional breezes. Perfect training camp weather.
QB Jared Goff will be the deer in the headlights but there are lots of questions to be answered this camp besides the one at QB. Is Pharoh Cooper going to be able to carry his excellent OTA performances into camp? Is TE Tyler Higbee the physical receiving presence the team has been coveting for years at the Y? Is Mark Barron the answer at OLB and is Ogletree the answer at the mike?
Football is back in L.A. Life is good.
Check here all through camp for eyes on reports. Hey, I live next door! Same bat time. Same bat channel.
