From the “are you kidding me” department:
After playing the entire week 4 contest versus the New Orleans Saints, Chargers beat writer Michael Gehiken is reporting CB Jason Verrett is out for the season with a torn ACL. Yes, he finished the game on one wheel with nary a peep in complaint. Wretched luck aside, he is one tough cookie.
This is heartbreaking not only for Verrett but the team. After losing perhaps their best player on offense for the year in WR Keenan Allen to flip the script and lose arguably their best player on defense (certainly the back seven) as well is a massive kick in the teeth.
Seriously, who’s next?
Chargers CB Jason Verrett: “My season is over with. … I cried yesterday.” Hoped to return to Pro Bowl. Partial torn ACL.

The team has been playing their hearts out. I have to give head coach Mike McCoy credit in that regard. However that’s were the credit stops as keeping the under-performing coach on to steward the team at this juncture is a mystery.
Manti Te’o, Danny Woodhead, Keenan Allan, Jason Verrett … that’s a lot of critical talent in the trainers room. Philip Rivers keeps the team competitive from week to week but from another promising preseason outlook the club is quickly positioning itself for another high draft pick in 2017. With the new CBA in place getting a highly talented top pick signed and into camp should give the team a big boost next season. You know, like drafting DL Joey Bosa third overall did this year.
What could go wrong?
