Cowboys LT Tyron Smith Out vs Falcons
After not practicing all week and being listed as “questionable” on the injury report it’s now being reported (Todd Archer – ESPN) that Cowboys LT Tyron Smith will not suit up for this Sunday’s critical game in Atlanta.
Smith has been battling back and groin issues all season long and after coming out of last weeks contest just before the end of the game, it looks like swing tackle Chaz Green will be the starter today against the Falcons. Make no mistake, Smith is a warrior and if he could go, he would.
In a strange twist the two players that vied for the starting LG spot all offseason and for several games of the regular season will now be playing side by side. Chaz Green and Jonathan Cooper, who solidified the OLines performance once he was elevated to the starting role, will now be shoulder to shoulder and their performance on Dak Prescott’s blind side will be critical in today’s outcome in Atlanta.
It’s not all bad news. As much as the coaching staff wanted to squeeze square-peg Chaz into the round-hole LG slot he is much better suited for tackle and has performed well at the position whenever he has been healthy enough to be called upon. He’s all good right now and that’s excellent news for the Dallas OLines prognosis.
As the offensive line goes so go the Dallas Cowboys. It’s Mr. Chaz Green’s time. What has happened before only matters in that it has put him in position to excel today. I believe Green is up to the task. We will find out later today.
