With Dez Bryant gone, is the Cowboys Duo enough to replicate what the Triplets brought to the party? Thankfully, we don’t have to guess.
In Dak’s fourth game of his rookie season, the Dallas Cowboys played the San Franciso 49ers with Dez Bryant watching on the sideline. Rookie QB, WR1 out and no WR of note to replace him. What would the Cowboys do? Most pundits had them losing as the 49ers would assuredly stack the box against Elliott.
That didn’t work out too well for the Niners. The Cowboys fed San Fran a steady diet of 11 personnel but mixed in plenty of 12 and 21 packages. The threat of Elliott, Dak’s legs, and Dunbar as the 2nd back combined with spread formations opened up the middle of the field for Dallas and Prescott showed he has no problem working through his reads.
Check out the drive below where Dallas completely confounds the 49ers defense and establishes what they can do with Dez on the sideline. After being in a 14 point deficit to start the game, once Dallas found it’s stride here it never looked back.
Dunbar / Tavon Austin is key.
Dak went 23/32 245 yds 2 TD and 0 Int. Zeke was 223 carries for 138 yards, 6.0 average, and 1 TD. I believe they will be just fine.
It’s’ going to be a fun year.
