In a rather strange twist, Flowers, who went without an agent up till now has retained Drew Rosenhaus to represent him as he enters the fourth year of his rookie contract.
If you’re a Giants faithful you really don’t want to hear Drew Rosenhaus has been retained by one of your team’s players. On the other hand, if you’re a member of Ereck Flowers inner family you have to be pretty excited to see the news as you realize you’re about to get paid.
Flowers and the GMen have had a rocky relationship on the field. The team signed LT Nate Solder in the offseason and have ostensibly moved Flowers to right tackle in a move that should make him a more viable option than the revolving door he was from time-to-time on the left.
Flowers has stayed away from the Giants this offseason and reportedly requested a trade. Supposedly the GMen weren’t even able to get a mid-round draft pick for him so a deal never materialized.
Erick has stated publicly he and the Giants have a “good relationship.” However, Rosenhaus is not retained to maintain the status quo. You bring in Drew because you want to rock da boat. You want a bigger contract, trade, release, something the club is most likely reticent to give.
Timing will be the key items as the team is “all-in” on Eli Manning’s closing window of effectiveness. The club attempted to solidify a porous offensive line this offseason and that may be the leverage Flowers’ camp is going to try and use to get what they desire.
Stay tuned, the other shoe is bound to drop.
