Giants Grasp Defeat out of Jaws of Victory

The G-Men traveled down south to take on David Gettleman’s former team the Carolina Panthers. While Josh Norman is no longer with the Panthers Odell Beckham Jr. made headlines when he was critical of the Giants play calling.

At the beginning of the game the, Giants played sloppy and looked unmotivated. The Panthers first touchdown game when Curtis Samuels broke 5 Giants tackles for a 25 yard catch and run that gave the Panthers a 7-3 lead. Then a massive miss que as the punt bounced of Odell Beckham Jr’s foot, Janoris Jenkins picked up the ball and lost it after that Eli Apple had the ball slip out of his hands until Colin Jones recovers the football in the endzone giving Carolina a 14-3 lead.

Big Blue was in serious need of a lift and trailing 17-3 on the road Pat Shurmur open up the bag of tricks that provided a much needed boost. Manning threw what appeared to be a wide receiver screen to Odell Beckham Jr. but OBJ threw the ball to Saquon Barkley who was wide opened and rumbled to the end zone.

Big Blue did have their opportunities in the 2nd half but were unable to convert. After a Cam Newton interception in the 3rd quarter, on the ensuing drive Eli, Manning throws an interception. Things only got worse for Big Blue.

On a 3rd and 13, a broken up pass was called a questionable personal foul on Landon Collins and on that drive, Christian McCaffrey has an 18 yard touchdown reception that gave Carolina a 27-16 lead at 11:24 in the 4th quarter. And the Giants response was another Eli Manning interception.

Janoris Jenkins helped the G-Men with an interception and Eli Manning and Odell Beckham Jr. connected on the combos 1st touchdown of the year and with Rhett Ellison’s grab on the 2 point conversion, the Giants were at 27-24. The need was one more defensive stop while the Panthers were kept out of the endzone they still converted a field goal.

Eli Manning had a chance to drive the Giants down the field and that was Manning did when he connected with Saquon Barkley for a 15 yard touchdown. The Giants had a 31-30 lead but for the second season in a row, the Giants lose on the road on a 63 yard field goal.

In a game where a victory could have turned around the Giants season, Big Blue just continues the downward spiral.
