Eagles Final 53 – v1.0

The preseason games are over and the defending Super Bowl Champs, the Philadelphia Eagles, are ready to start their run at repeating as champions. With the end of preseason comes the day most football players dread, final cut day. This is where the team is brought to its final 53 man roster.

The Eagles cut this year (all posted at the end of the story) for the most part wasn’t shocking at all. However, cutting Josh Adams, Matt Jones, and Donald Pumphrey to keep Wendell Smallwood was a bit of a shocker. Wendell has had a few shots to be special but was surpassed by Clement last year knocking him out of the rotation. This year Josh Adams ran with nice vision and power. At this point, one would imagine he would be the new change of pace guy to round out the running back room. However, Doug Pederson decided Wendell was the better fit.

Another notable name to be cut was Christian Hackenberg. The Penn State alum turned journeyman in the NFL, Hackenberg just couldn’t hack it and make the roster (terrible pun I know). With Joe Callahan and Hackenberg gone the team, for the moment, is rolling with Nick Foles and Nate Sudfeld.

With cuts being done and the season around the corner, the Eagles are looking to get the ball rolling this Thursday night in the NFL season opener against the Atlanta Falcons.

The biggest issue with our cuts and roster moves that will affect Thursday nights game is specials team leader, Chris Maragos, being placed on reserve/ PUP. With Chris out, for an extended time, we will need a new leader to step up on our special teams and help guide the Eagles in this function of their game plan.
