Panthers Rookie Curtis Samuel Out for Season

Curtis Samuel

Oops. As the old saw goes: “Plans are like mayflies when the steel begins to sing.” Too over the top? We could go with: “The best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry.” I agree, very wordy. How about: “Ahhh crap, so much for speed at WR for the Carolina Panthers.”  That works.

Mike Garafolo was the first one to break the news for the NFL Network on Tuesday and I refused to believe even though the replay from MNF didn’t look promising. Since then it’s been confirmed everywhere and it’s a sad day for dynamic football in Carolina.

The Panthers put a grade-A butt-whooping on the ‘Phins last Monday and after trading Kelvin Benjamin away to open up more snaps for the speed they drafted in the passing game the new “Speed Merchants of Charlotte” quickly takes a stage-left to the training room and will be there until 2018.

This blows. At first the team announced Samuel would be shut down but followed that up with the release about the season-ending surgery. The time lost between the rookie and his QB can never be regained.

Russell Shepard is the next man up and he also has wheels. There is no sympathy in the NFL.
