Rams and Brandin Cook Agree to an $81M Extension

Remember that feeling when the former future of the WR corps Sammie Watkins took the deal with the Chiefs and proved the to NFL he was indeed a one-year rental no matter the platitudes by the team or the player? Don’t look for that to get repeated as the Los Angeles Rams have signed a five-year extension with their other elite speedster, Brandin Cooks.

Ian Rapoport from the NFL Network pegs the deal at $81 million with $20.5 fully guaranteed from the get-go and another $50.5 million in guarantees that are readily obtainable.

SIDEBAR: How the NFL and agents have got players to swallow a $50.5 million “guarantee” that isn’t is beyond me. When a team states: “We will guarantee you another $10 million if you are on the team in year three!” it’s anything BUT a guarantee! That is a bonus. It’s also pure bull shit. This has to be the same crew that has successfully rebranded Social Security as an “entitlement.” #FacePalm

Back to the good news! Cooks is a perfect fit for the Rams and head coach Sean McVay. A much better one than the very inconsistent Sammie Watkins who has tons of talent and is a solid professional yet struggles to bring consistent production on game day week in week out.

The deal runs through 2023 so therefor, Brandin Cooks should be a Ram though that time frame. This is excellent news for Rams Nation and bad news for the NFC West who have yet to who they have a viable idea on how to stop the offensive juggernaut known as the LA Rams.
