That’s a wrap, folks! Training camp ends with surprise star Rookie QB Luis Perez breaking down the final huddle for the 2018 Los Angeles Rams.
QB Luis Perez, a former bowler who decided to try out for football the last year of high school, has been the fairy tale story of the Rams Training Camp. The former starter and Harlon Hill Trophy recipient out of Texas A&M-Commerce signed with the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted free agent who is still on the team pushing for a spot on the final 53-man roster. With training camp finished many of the players took time this week to thank fans and sign autographs. With only 3 preseason games remaining, the Rams are now focused on getting prepared for the start of the season.
In preseason week 2 the Los Angeles Rams will look to bounce back against Jon Gruden and the Raiders after suffering an embarrassing loss to the Ravens, 33-7. Head Coach Sean McVay has yet to announce if he will be playing any starters this week. The rookies will have plenty of reps to show that they deserve a spot before roster cuts on Monday.
One of the rookies to look out for in preseason week 2 is OL Joseph Noteboom, a third-round pick out of TCU. He is the favorite to replace starting RG Jamon Brown, who will miss the first two games of the season with a suspension from the league. One of the players who will not be with the team (again) this upcoming game is DL Aaron Donald. Donald who is a 3x NFL All-Pro is still holding out for a new contract.
Many reports out of the Rams organization have said both sides are close to reaching a deal. Donald, who is worthy of it, is seeking 20 plus million a year. As GM Wes Sneed has stated many times “We want to make Donald a Ram for a long, long time” via ESPN.
Many have said that the Rams have won the offseason with the acquisition of people like WR Brandin Cooks, DT N’damukong Suh, CB’s Marcus Peters, Aquib Talib, and Sam Shields. NFL pundits believe this will be one of the best defenses in the league, especially with Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips who is very excited to be able to run the hybrid defense this season.
Jared Goff who had a 105 pt. passer rating last season, which was 5th in the league, will look to continue to grow and improve with the addition of WR Brandin Cooks. No one is more excited to have the addition of Cooks than star RB Todd Gurley, who recently signed a 4-year, $60 million extension this offseason. With Cooks in the lineup, the other team’s defense will have to play true, making it to where Todd Gurley will not have to face eight in the box every time he steps on the field. With a team that has so many young stars in a city known for celebrities and championships, the expectations for a Super Bowl has never been greater for Hollywood’s team.
