The Los Angeles Rams lost to the New Orleans Saints, 28-0, in their final game of the preseason. With none of the starters playing this week, the reserves on both sides of the ball struggled immensely. This was the last time for players that are sitting on the bubble to showcase what they can bring to this organization or other teams around the league. This can’t be how they wanted to end their chances.
The Saints defense held the Rams to 151 yards of total offense on 56 plays. That equals to 2.7 yards per play, which can’t sit well with the coaching staff. The back-ups on the defense didn’t do themselves any favors allowing 369 total yards offense against the Saints.
Sean Mannion did not play at all the last preseason game, which is surprising with the struggles he has had these last three weeks. The Rams have seemingly decided to go with Sean Mannion as the backup to Goff.
Brandon Allen played the first half going 7-13, 57 yards and 1 INT. Allen held the football far too long while in the pocket, giving up 4 sacks. With Allen and Mannion struggling this preseason, the Rams are betting the bank on Goff’s health.
Many players use this preseason to fight for a spot on the team. This week players like Micah Kiser put it all on the line, having a total of 12 tackles. Kiser is the Rams 5th round pick in this year’s draft out of Virginia. Players like Kiser and many others will be holding their breath over the next few days as team cuts start Monday.
The Los Angeles Rams play their season opener against the Raiders on Monday Night Football on September 10th. The Rams previously played Oakland in week 2 of the preseason, winning 19-15. With it being an odd game playing an opponent so close to your opener, both teams opted to play none of their starters on both sides of the ball. With a well rested offense heading into the first game, many people in the media are wondering if the Rams will struggle not playing once in the preseason. The club will just have to prove them wrong.
