Los Angeles Rams travel to Oakland to open their regular season against the Raiders on Monday night. This Monday Night Football matchup will be the first regular season game in 10 years for Oakland’s head coach Jon Gruden. A Cali rivalry that was once called the battle for Los Angeles has dated back to the late 80s and early 90s. At that time the Raiders and the Rams shared the Los Angeles market, creating many historic battles.
The Rams starters on offense will see the field the 1st time this season against the Raiders. Todd Gurley will look to take the title as the best running back in the NFL this season. Gurley signed a massive contract extension this summer, a 4 year 57.5 million dollars with 45 million guaranteed. Resting the entire preseason, Gurley is primed and ready to run all over the Oakland defense. Jared Goff will look to improve in his 3rd year with new addition Brandin Cooks, who was traded to the Rams this offseason. The Rams offense will look to show everyone around the league they are Super Bowl contenders.
Aaron Donald is back with the Rams after signing his historic contract extension. I should say “was” historic after the Raiders traded Khalil Mack to the bears just last week and he signed for more. Oakland’s defense will look totally different without Mack, something the Rams o-line won’t be disappointed about. The Rams defense will look to attack the Raiders o-line with new addition Ndamukong Suh. The Donald and Suh combo could be something special this season, that is a scary defensive line along with newly named team captain Micheal Brockers. Marcus Peters and Aquib Talib look to shut down WR Amari Cooper.
My prediction for the final score will be Rams 24, Raiders 14. Todd Gurley should have a big game with the absence of Khalil Mack along with the Rams defense proving why they are considered Super Bowl contenders.
The L.A. Rams travel to Oakland 9/10, 10:20 PM.
