Rams Suffer First L of the Season

The Los Angeles Rams (8-1) lost to the New Orleans Saints (7-1) 35-45. This contest was a game that had a lot of offense, with both teams coming close to over 500 yards total. The Saints just picked apart the Rams’ defense, showing everyone around the league why they are the best scoring offense. Rams have a ton of football left and are still the best team in the NFL. They rallied to make it a game but in the end, QB Drew Brees took care of business.

The Rams kept the game close in the first quarter, going back and forth with the NFL’s best offense. That wasn’t enough though as the Saints took off in the second quarter scoring 21 unanswered points to end the half 35-17. Runnings back Mark Ingram and Alvin Karma just pounded the Rams’ defense all game. Long drives from QB Drew Brees just wore the defense down, 9 plays 80 yards, 8 plays 60 yards. Time of possession and red zone efficiency is what really beat the Rams today. On 3 drives in the red zone, the Saints scored 3 TDs just in the 2nd quarter. America’s game of the week lived up to the hype this Sunday.

Todd Gurley continues to set records almost every Sunday it seems now. Gurley sets a new franchise record for most consecutive regular-season games with a touchdown. He faced the #1 ranked rush defense and it showed in the first half, holding Gurley to under 40 yards rushing. He was held to under 75 yards in this game but I have no doubt he will recover next week. WR Brandi Cooks shined against his old team scoring a touchdown and going over 100 rec yards.

LA’s defense just got picked apart in the 1st half allowing over 300 yards. Brees had 3 touchdowns and looked confident in the pocket all day. The defense made some plays forcing a fumble on Mark Ingram but it was all Saints all 1st half. After halftime, the players really started getting to the QB. Newly traded DE Donta Fowler Jr put the pressure on the Saints o-line, with Suh and Aaron Donald, just makes this Rams defensive line is just plain scary.

The Rams are usually playing with the lead which made their offense to go one dimensional and really forcing QB Jared Goff to make some bad plays. You know its bad game for a defense when you allow Drew Brees to rush for a 1st down. QB Jared Goff had a decent game but made some critical mistakes especially at the end of the 1st half. Goff threw an INT with: 50 seconds left and lead to a Saints touchdown to end the half.  Goff calms himself after halftime, which really made him come alive in the 2nd half putting up over 400 yards passing.

The Rams will look to rally back against the 12th man and Seahawks Nov 11th, 4:25 ET
