Seahawks Upgrade Defense in Big Way

Sheldon Richardson

In a trade that was posted at 4:20 PM EST (take what you will from that) the Seattle Seahawks continued building on their NFL identity as a club that fields one of the most suffocating, physical defenses in the league. Also the New York Jets added to their NFL legacy by continuing to tank the season challenge their coaching staff by making certain they don’t have elite talent to field on the gridiron.

The above was accomplished for both sides via a trade whereas the ‘Hawks sent veteran JAG WR Jermaine Kearse, a 2018 second round selection and a swap of seventh round picks to the Jets in exchange for man-child and force of NFL nature DT Sheldon Richardson.

I don’t know how much Richardson had to pay nor to which voodoo priestess to get this trade done, but it was worth it. The former 13th overall pick, Defensive Rookie of the Year and Pro Bowler goes from a perennial bottom dweller club to a team that yearly has it’s sights set on s Super Bowl appearance.

26 years old and just entering his prime the last two seasons have been down years statistically for Sheldon as the entire Jets team has struggled. Regardless, the Seahawks just got a major upgrade to an already serious defense. Gang Green has drafted heavily along the defensive line in recent years and have Muhammad Wilkerson (who they drafted 11th overall) in a logjam at the position. New York got value to be certain, however giving up a player of that quality means the club had better hit on that second round choice or accept that once again, the team got worse. They can always fire another coach. That should solve it.
