July 25. The Greenbrier. White Sulphur Springs, W.V.
The Texans’ rookies and veterans join for the ultimate workplace retreat better known as NFL training camp.
It’s been a long summer full of questions, theories, hopes, and wishes. What will the newly built offensive line will look like? How will the first round draft picks acclimate? How will Deshaun look? How will the honey badger look? How will Watt look? A lot of questions, a lot of guesses. Very few answers. The truth is this summer has thus been a reminder that nobody knows anything. We think we do, based on history, interviews, or insight from coaches, but it could all be a farce.
That’s all about to change now. In two weeks we will begin to have hard visual proof. No more guessing, no more opinions, but film. This is a game changer. July 25 starts the season of getting our early season Texans’ questions answered.
On September 9th at 1 p.m regardless of how Houston’s training camp goes, a meeting with the New England Patriots is inevitable. The one team Houston can’t seem to beat no matter how many letterman jackets they have made for the game or how many plays Deshaun makes. The ultimate litmus test. I for one never like to put much stock in ONE game, especially a week one match but for Houston, this game must be circled, highlighted, and asterisk applied. We will know on September 10th how the offensive line looks especially going up against a starless Patriots defensive front. Houston’s secondary questions? They also will be answered on that day. The process for getting insight into those questions starts in training camp though.
Head Coach Bill O’ Brien is tasked with high expectations. For the first time, he has his franchise quarterback. He has his defensive leader back healthy, and he’s had time to prepare. This years’ training camp will show us not only a lot about the team but about the coaching.
Two weeks ladies and gentleman. Let the countdown to helmets and shoulder pads begin.
