Cowboys Pass Rush Duo vs. The League

The Cowboys have looked long and hard for that dynamic duo of pass rushing war daddies. Edge rushers are game changers, and putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks is crucial in the NFL. With the addition of Robert Quinn and the resigning of Tank Lawrence, the Boys have two of the best in the business, but are they the best duo in the league?

Tank Lawrence is one of the best players in the league. Dallas just locked him up to the tune of five years and 105 million dollars. He might not be Khalil Mack but he’s not too far from it, as he kills the run just as much if not more than he kills it in the passing game.

Robert Quinn was a big get for the team after losing Randy Gregory. Quinn was once the best pass rusher in the league as he led the NFL in sacks with 19 back in 2013. While his numbers have declined, he can still bring the heat off the edge and is still only 28 years old. He’s got some really good football in front of him.

While Dallas has a solid set of pass rushers, they aren’t the only team with a dynamic duo. The Broncos Von Miller and Bradley Chubb, the Browns Myles Garrett and newly acquired Olivier Vernon, Jadeveon Clowney and J.J. Watt down in Houston, Joey Bosa and running mate Melvin Ingram III, all could give the Boys tag team a run for their money.

The guys at PFF gave Tank and Quinn a combined pass rush grade of 156. That’s behind Miller/ Chubb (162.7), Clowney/ Watt (168.5), and Garrett/ Vernon (172.2) which was tops in the league. Tank and Quinn combined for a total of 17 sacks in 2018. That’s behind the Cleveland duo who combined for 20.5, the Houston duo who combined for 25, and the Broncos duo who put up an immense 26.5.

While they weren’t the best in 2018, Dallas has to feel really good about their two starting defensive ends. Quinn has never been the #2 guy and he won’t see near as much attention now that he has a Tank on the other side. Quarterbacks better watch out for the Boys coming off the edge in 2019.
