Ezekiel Elliott

Ezekiel Elliott to Meet With Roger Goodell

At a music festival in Las Vegas in May, Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott was briefly handcuffed and released after nudging a security guard to the ground. Elliott, who appeared intoxicated, was released soon after and no arrest was made.

The time has come for Elliott to explain what happened that night. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has summoned the league’s rushing champion to the New York City to meet about the incident on Tuesday.

Although Elliott was never charged with a crime, he can still be suspended under the NFL’s personal conduct policy. Elliott found that out the hard way in 2017 after being suspended for six games in a domestic violence situation with an ex-girlfriend.

There is a video of the incident in question and most people have seen it by now. Despite the fact that Elliott did very little to cause the security guard to fall and not much should be made of the situation, Zeke remains in hot water. Elliott continues to find himself in the wrong place at the wrong time and because of his history, he loses the benefit of the doubt.

Cowboys Owner Jerry Jones has stated he doesn’t believe punishment is warranted, but he’s been wrong before. Jones relayed the same rhetoric in 2017 when he thought Elliott wouldn’t serve a suspension and we all know how that turned out.

The reality is this is a bad sign for Elliott and the Cowboys. Goodell has no rhyme or reason when handing down suspensions and the league’s bias against the Cowboys and their owner seems very real.

Now, we wait.
