Jerry Jones

The Cowboys Need to Keep Kris Richard

It's time for Jerry Jones to look towards the future and secure the services of Kris Richard. The time is now Jerry.

With speculation rife that Cowboys defensive backs coach Kris Richard is receiving coaching interviews all over the league, its time for Jerry Jones to pull him aside and tell him how valuable he is to this franchise.

Richard has seven years of experience under his belt as a defensive backs coach in the NFL. He was instrumental in forming the “Legion of Boom” and has been a revelation for the Cowboys defense in his first year with the team.

Going into the season, they were expected to be mediocre at best. Richard, along with defensive coach Rod Marinelli, has turned this team into a top 5 defense who are capable of big things in the playoffs.

Now that Richard is making headlines, the sharks are circling. He could be picked off by any one of the eight teams looking for a new head coach.

It is believed the Jets, Dolphins, and Bucs all want to talk to Richard about their vacant head coaching roles.

Not only is Richard a great fit into the Cowboys franchise, but he is also credited with moving Byron Jones from Safety to Cornerback and making him a Pro Bowler for the first time.

Here is the situation in Dallas

Defensive coach Rod Marinelli will be 70 years old before the next season kicks off and isn’t going to be around forever. He has been with the Cowboys since 2014 and has been a defensive coach in the league since 1973.

There was rumor Marinelli would step down last season, but Jerry tempted him to stay on. Details of Marinelli current contract are being kept under wraps, but he can’t have too much longer in him.

It's time for Jerry to pull Richard aside and tell him he has a future in Arlington when Marinelli retires. Spending another year under Marinelli will only help to improve Richard as a coach.

Not only could Kris Richard be the next defensive coach, but he could be the next head coach.

Just because jobs are available, it doesn’t mean you have to take them.

Bide your time. Learn. Grow. One day you can have it all.
