Zack Martin

Four Cowboys Rewarded With All-Pro Honors

The NFL announced their annual All-Pro teams and the Dallas Cowboys were represented on both the First and Second-teams. Four Cowboys were named as All-Pro’s for the 2018 season.

Guard Zack Martin was the only member of the Cowboys to land as First-Team All-Pro. That makes Martin five-for-five during his career at being named one of the best at his position. Martin has now been First-Team All-Pro three times and second-team All-Pro twice in his five seasons. This is why Martin got the richest contract at his position the last offseason. He’s simply one of the best guards in the NFL every year.

Byron Jones, Ezekiel Elliott, and Leighton Vander Esch all found spots as Second-Team All-Pro’s.

For Elliott, this is his second stint as an All-Pro. After leading the NFL in rushing as a rookie, Elliott was named to the First-Team in 2016. Zeke led the league in rushing again this season, but his lack of touchdowns likely cost him that honor this year. Rams running back Todd Gurley was named as First-Team All-Pro over Elliott after coming in third in rushing yards. Gurley led the NFL in touchdowns with 21.

After moving to cornerback full-time, Jones had his best season as a pro. The defensive back had 14 passes defensed and allowed just one touchdown while shutting down some of the league’s elite receivers this year.

Vander Esch’s All-Pro inclusion is impressive considering he didn’t begin the season as a starter and he’s only in his rookie campaign. The stud linebacker has been credited with 140 tackles and two interceptions on the year.

All four Cowboys were worthy of making All-Pro, but a possible snub is defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence’s exclusion. Lawrence may not have the sack totals as those who did make the cut, but 10.5 sacks is still impressive and Lawrence is one of the best two-way players in the league.

Having four Cowboys named as All-Pro’s is a testament to the success of the team in 2018. Individual seasons are nice, but the team still has bigger goals in mind.
