Frank Gore seems ageless at 35-years-old. His career emulates the aging process of a fine red wine, he keeps getting better. Last season in Miami, he carried the ball 156 times for 722 yards and a whopping 4.6 yards-per-carry. He just signed a one-year deal worth $2 million with the Buffalo Bills. He is actually an upgrade over Buffalo’s 2018 production.
Gore joins two 30-year-old backs in what could be the oldest running back room in the NFL. LeSean McCoy (30) and Chris Ivory (30) carried the load last year for a combined 899 yards on the ground for an average of 3.25 YPC. In comparison, rookie quarterback Josh Allen ran for 631 yards with a 7.1 YPC. The Bills chose Gore’s smashmouth style to invigorate their run game.
The move defies logic but until he starts to show a decline, why not Frank Gore? It remains to be seen how the Bills will continue to reconfigure the offense around their young quarterback. Gore provides consistency and veteran leadership which is sure to assist Allen within the offense. Free Agency is officially underway.
