Odell Beckham Jr. Giants

Why Trading Odell Beckham Jr. Will Work for Giants

The G-Men traded Odell Beckham Jr. this week and Giants fans are sounding off. Concerns that the team is making hasty roster changes and generally headed in the wrong direction are prevalent discussions in the middle of free agency.  All hope for the Giants is not lost, however, so take it easy Yankee Doodles. You landed another first round pick that may change the future of your team at one of the most important positions in the game. Check it out.

What Giants Gave Up

The Giants traded, hands down, one of the best statistical young receivers and game changers the NFL has seen in a  long time. Beckham’s stats and game-changing plays are proof of his rare talents and that talent is no doubt a loss to the team.

Odell had over 1300 yards his rookie year and kept that streak going until he got hurt in 2017. Last season, he went over 1000 in only 12 starts- and that’s with Eli Manning throwing the ball. Beckham is a superstar receiver in his prime and the Giants sent a premier talent packing.

What Giants Gain

The Giants still have a stable of skilled position players in Barkley, Shepard, and Ingram, and have secured two first-round picks to get their quarterback for the future. Everyone panicked about the QB opportunity they missed in the draft last year.  At this year’s draft, the 5th and 17th picks should be enough to move up and grab a potential replacement QB for the franchise.

With the addition of  Solder and Hernandez on the left side of the offensive line and the trade for Kevin Zeitler at right guard, the team looks ready for whoever steps in as the new Eli. Barkley with a loaded offensive line will help whoever takes over for the 38-year-old former Super Bowl Champ.

The team can package their 5th and 17th picks and possibly move up and take a shot at grabbing a franchise QB or just sit tight and load up with talent in other positions. The picks could be a combo of  QB Dwayne Haskins and receiver D.K. Metcalf aka Julio Jones 2.0. They could also opt to help their offensive and defensive lines and wait on a QB.

Giants have the opportunity to make some major moves after departing with Beckham. No matter what they do, they won’t make everybody happy. It is New York after all.
