With their 4th round pick the 49ers select punter Mitch Wishnowsky?!?!?!
Not only did the 49ers beat the Seattle Seachickens last year but they were able to draft Nick Bosa with the number two pick in this year’s draft. Yes, we got our guy, best player in the draft. Then they topped that off with drafting wide receiver Deebo Samuel in the second-round. This guy can easily become our number two, I like what you are doing. When the third round came they surprised everyone by drafting another wide receiver Jalen Hurd. Okay I see what you are doing John Lynch, yeah let’s revamp that wide receiver corps. Time for the fourth-round pick, Utah’s PUNTER? Mitch Wishnowsky? I can’t even say his name, why did you draft him?
Let’s shine a spotlight on the 49ers’ punter. Last season the 49ers were bottom five in average yards punted. They were bottom 10 in average net yards, and they were 21st in downing the ball inside the 20-yard line. Drafting a punter is not a sexy pick at all, I get that. People don’t even like when lineman is drafted, let alone a punter. But this was a needed position. I remember seeing so many people upset when Bradley Pinion came out to kick the ball. When the game is on the line and you’re only up by a couple of points the following punt could either make or break your defense. A punters job is setting the defense up for success by completely flipping the field on the other team.
We may never know how to say his name, but we’ll get to know his kicking abilities. He averaged 45.7 yards punted average at Utah, better than Pinion and Utah only gave up 106 total return yards on 100 punts, that’s 1.06 yards returned per punt. You may never be happy with a punter in the fourth round, but when the 49ers are up by two with 35 seconds left and Wishnowsky punts the ball inside the five, you’ll be thanking God he’s a 49er. The 49ers front office is doing everything they believe sets this team up for success. Until they prove they cannot do the job, and they have not done that yet, then I am believing in this front office and what they do.

This next video shows about 5.5-second hang time, think about that one for a second.
Here is why the @49ers went in the 4th for this guy @mitchwish and he’ll be a big asset to the defence this season. He also has a very accurate going in kick, so they see him as quite a weapon @jenniferleechan pic.twitter.com/5yoCJ1SrFd
